Very nice.

My first Kar Wai Wong and went into it pretty blank too. In the end I am very happy, what a really positive surprise this was. Visually a little gem, don't think there is a second in the film where there is not something happening visually. Slow motion footage, great cutscenes (America has never looked so attractive) and cool camera work. Filming from the outside if the scene takes place inside, and vice versa. Well done.

Story is divided into several parts. The common thread is the relationship between Lizzie, who travels America to forget her broken heart, and Jeremy, a British cafe owner who tries desperately to get in touch with her through the letters Lizzie regularly sends him. As Lizzie gets to know new people, some stories unfold. Although the film is carried by the beautiful visual style, Kar Wai also pays attention to the other things. The stories and characters are captivating, realistic yet with enough angle to keep it interesting. The acting is also excellent. Norah Jones amazes with a natural that you don't expect from a first serious role, Rachel Weisz and David Strathairn are strong as an ex-couple, Law is always good and Portman can do no wrong for me. Strong acting and even with a ridiculous head of hair and accent still terribly attractive.

So a big stroke of luck. Visual enjoyment, interesting stories, warming ending. 4*

In the year My Blueberry Nights came out, I got to know Kar Wai Wong with his 2046. In the meantime I've seen some more of his films and it was time I put My Blueberry Nights on again. And what a wonderful film this still is. The line between music and images is very thin. Both complement each other very nicely. Warm colors that take you into a melancholic night with equally melancholic but light jazz. With dialogues that don't have a word too many and moments of silence that are just as expressive.

Central is Norah Jones as (Elizabeth) who gradually comes into contact with some people who will change her life in almost a year. With symbolism that works and does not want to be forced to wave a philosophical message. From the blueberry pie to a jar of keys. The people who oppose Elizabeth carry their past with them, as do they. Each of them deals with it in a different way. In this way Elizabeth herself will gradually let go of her past to move forward.

Kar Wai Wong exceptionally goes for an American setting, cast and music. But in terms of directing, he remains himself and puts his well-known warm visual stamp here. A very moving film that is definitely not inferior to the majority of its palmares. A beautiful film that still has lost none of its power 15 years later.
