John Parrish, a former Confederate officer, is eager to sell his Anchor Ranch and head east with his fiancée Caroline Vail. However, he doesn't like the low price offered to John by the disabled Lee Wilkenson and his ambitious wife Martha for the ranch, and he stays to see what's behind it. When one of John's ranchers is shot dead, he decides to stay and fight, drawing on his experiences from the American Civil War.
