Fairly lukewarm reactions here to the umpteenth remake of King Kong, this time one from 1976. Not a topper, but quite a pleasant viewing piece. A beautiful Jessica Lange can only contribute to that. The film's biggest turn-offs are unfortunately the beasts. The monkey himself initially who moves quite woodenly and unnaturally. The mimicry didn't make any sense and those eyes didn't look right. The snake, on the other hand, was a degree worse unfortunately. The monkey's motives were also questionable when he was portrayed as a horny goat (understandable, but still).
The plot is well known. The purpose of the trip was different and the plots were a bit out of the blue (such as the introduction of Dwan, but also that of Jack Prescott can be called bizarre). Outsiders who just went on a mission and won the trust of the top guys of an oil company in a very short time. Strange anyway.
The action moments were quite OK and the story flows nicely so that it never gets boring. A decent remake, but it's not all that great. Very narrow enough, at 20 that becomes an 11/20.

Nice film about an expedition to an uninhabited island where a large amount of oil may be found. Largely set up and fairly adventurous. The special effects are still pretty good for the most part. The characters are a bit on the dull side, but Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange are well cast together (and for the latter this film marked her debut).
