Just watched this on the unsurpassed MGM channel.

Nice early film with Cage.

You would almost forget that before he started starring in all those action films, Cage mainly appeared in more alternative works such as this film, in which he goes all out in terms of performance.

The film starts a bit slowly, the first half hour was just so-so,

but once I got into it it was very good.

It is therefore difficult to determine which was the best scene, because one absurd situation quickly followed the next.

Cage is great as a completely freaked out idiot/psychopath/freak shouting in the middle of the street:

I'm a vampire! I'm a vampire!

Beals looks incredibly sexy as a vampira, but her acting is bizarrely bad, fortunately her role is not too big and she has to look seductive.

Highly recommended.

An eight, or four stars.

Incredible.

But really: this is a film that constantly stirs up disbelief and which I largely watched with my mouth open. The premise of course throws the door wide open to slapstick, but especially because it only becomes clear halfway through the film whether we are on the left (Cage is a vampire) or the right (Cage only imagines he is a vampire ), the intention of the makers remains somewhat uncertain until then. As The One Ring already pointed out: what are we looking at? Is it slapstick? Intention or ignorance? Ed Wood or Plan 9 itself?
It doesn't matter much; because Cage is 90% responsible for the disbelief and he serves it with entertaining hilarity. Without embarrassment or inhibition, he pokes fun at what we consider good, solid or even acceptable acting. It results in a film that you can have many questions about, but which ultimately manages to effortlessly hold your attention.
I have skipped many of his films since the 90s, but after having seen or re-watched some of his films in a short time, you can hardly conclude that Cage has become a genre in its own right. 3.5*

Although I am familiar with Cage's cult status, I have seen him very little and mostly a long time ago, with only the equally great Mandy in recent years. Are films that I still want to see given more priority after seeing Vampire's Kiss, because this has to be my favorite comedic performance ever, with several iconic scenes that I had often encountered before but did not know they were from this one. movie arrived. In addition to Cage's brilliant crazy performance, the film is also a strong satire and valid points are raised, without this being at the expense of the comedy. The shape is not special, but certainly not bad either. With a stylist like De Palma at the helm, this could have been a masterpiece. I also had to think of American Pyscho (a film that I have not yet seen but also know many fragments of and have recently read the book). I actually still laugh at Cage now.
