I'm a fan of boxing movies and despite the fact that there are few boxing scenes in this movie, it contains enough tropes from those kinds of movies to be a hit for me. The idealistic boxer who ends up in a shadowy environment where everyone wants to get money out of him, where his family and friends try to warn him and he makes all the wrong choices, only to have to climb back out of the valley to the top... that's how it should be. the. Not the most famous actors participate here, but they all do it well and each and every one of them fits their roles well.

Good film about a boxer on his return who gets paid to lose a match. This film is known as the first boxing film (despite the fact that there are very few boxing scenes in it). The last fight looks good though. Furthermore, this directorial debut by Robert Rossen has an entertaining rise-and-fall story and is well cast.

Most noirs weren't huge hits but low-to-medium budget films that just brought in reliable money, but occasionally there was a film that was much more successful than expected. The second Robert Rossen film he was already making when his debut premiered was one of those.

This was a film made through Garfield's own production company. And it was a critical and commercial success. The film received three Oscar nominations and won one. Before mounting. However, the two Oscars that were not won are the two strongest points of this film. The amazing role of Garfield. Which is convincing as a boyish novice and as a cynical boxer who has already seen everything and for the screenplay by Abraham Polonsky that gives the film a nice anti-capitalist layer. Money destroys everything beautiful in this film. And the little man, no matter how far he gets, is always in the service of a thoroughly corrupt system.

I am becoming more and more a fan of Garfield and he was more or less killed by The Powers That Be.
