Not a very good turn from Sarafian and associates. Gandolfini still does a nice job, especially in the beginning, but for the rest there is not much to get from the cast. Lots of action and often in the air. Together with the tempo the lifebuoy of the film. Just enough distraction not to dwell on the plot, because that is of course not about anything. The third trump card should actually be the humor, but that's where things go quite wrong. Quite a lot of one liners and other jokes that come across as forced and usually far from funny. Sheen should have some aptitude for it, but he can't pull it off either. The kind of material Shane Black would know how to handle. David Twohy doesn't even come close.

Mediocre film in which a skydiving instructor takes a woman who is attempting a jump for the first time. The skydiving is the only element that distinguishes the film from the standard action film (and this produces some spectacular images). The rest of the plot, humor and characters are a bit on the bland side.

half/half.

The images are sometimes super beautiful, the locations in the desert too. And Kinski of course. But on the other hand, the stunts are milked way too long, that Sheen is boring and the story sucks, and that what must pass for humor is too often absolutely not funny. The wrong balance between slapstick and substance perhaps - a more serious thriller could have worked just like that. Well, maybe not with Sheen. Or if the humor had been a bit smarter.

When I think about what will remain of the film, it is mainly the images. And that is exactly what stayed with me from the last time - about twenty years ago. I had forgotten about Sheen, and the difficult stunts too. Then I hope it will be the same again.
