Astérix et les Vikings plot

Something extraordinary has happened in Gaul's favorite village. Hippix, the boss's tough nephew, has just arrived from the big city of Parisium. Asterix and Obelix have been given the impossible task of making him a real man, but Hippix harbors an enormous coward and the hard training he receives does little to change this. Meanwhile, the Vikings have come ashore in Gaul, determined to find this champion of fear. This one will teach them to fly, as predicted by their clairvoyant. When Hippix is kidnapped by the Vikings, Asterix and Obelix give chase to the icy high North. But Hippix is now completely under the spell of the beautiful and brave Abba.

As far as I'm concerned, definitely the least Asterix cartoon. The animation is of a higher level than all the previous ones, but I don't think this really adds much value to the rather weak story. The plot is based on the album "Asterix and the Normans" which in itself I didn't think was a great album. Some things have also been added, notably the Viking chieftain's daughter who plays a stowaway and develops into Hippix's love interest, as well as a trip to the far north, are elements that do not return in the comic. Furthermore, some modern things have been added, such as that bird from Hippix that he uses as a mobile phone. Original but just like the music it's all un-Asterix.

Mwa, my least favorite Asterix has to be Asterix the Gaul. Asterix and the Vikings can easily get over that. Had the Dutch version been recorded by better voice actors (Jim already lags behind me anyway), the film would have been hardly inferior to the others in the series. The story is and remains fun, despite the changes made. A number of jokes have remained happy. It will also be a bad thing to me that the Vikings did not live at the same time as the Gauls. For me it's about the adventure and in the almost eighty minutes a lot of fun things happen. Visually, it all went well for me. I was afraid of a lot of CGI. It will undoubtedly be in abundance, but the whole looked nicely drawn.

Asterix Et Les Vikings is a film adaptation of the 1966 comic book “Asterix and the Normans” by writer René Goscinny and artist Albert Uderzo. That the 2 often did not take it too seriously with historical accuracy, is clear from this story, since the comic is set in 51 BC, and the Normans (also called Vikings) were only spotted for the first time in the 9th century AD. .

The story of the animated film differs in large parts from the comic album by Goscinny and Uderzo. For example, the chieftain of the Vikings now suddenly has a daughter, who naturally gets into a relationship with Hippix. A subplot has also been added with a Viking medicine man and his son, who have their sights set on the throne of the Viking chieftain. These additions don't exactly make the story any more interesting now, and the Vikings' goal of learning what fear is essentially gets overshadowed by this.

I used to be a fan of the Asterix series, but I've come to appreciate this series less and less over the years. This applies to both the comics and the animated films. The advantage of this Asterix film is that it does not last too long. The animation by the Danish animation studio A. Film is fine. Released in the Netherlands as Asterix En De Vikingen, with the voices of Luk Wyns as Asterix, Jan van Looveren as Obelix and Jim Bakkum as Hippix.
