“These waves are for the big boys.”

Blue Crush is predictable and clichéd but entertaining. Hawaii, Bosworth, Rodriguez and the surf scenes make it enjoyable to watch. The girl who is a great surfing talent but due to trauma no longer dares to participate in competitions is of course not very new and the film also struggles to really get going.

The beginning is a bit long-winded and although Hawaii and the surf scenes look great, the characters remain cardboard thin. Not a big deal if the film excels in other areas, but the director colors too neatly within the lines. The male counterparts aren't very interesting and I would have liked a little more background information about Bosworth's trauma and her relationship with her friends (including Rodriguez). That girl group had potential, but once the football players show up, it becomes more of a love story and not of the original kind. But again, Hawaii, surfing and beautiful women… Life isn't that bad.

A film about friendship, family, love and surfing. It's about family you have and the family you chose for yourself. The friendship where you once fight anymore but are always there for each other.
