Faustrecht der Freiheit plot
"Survival of the fittest."
West Germany, mid 1970s. Franz Biberkopf (Rainer Werner Fassbinder) loses his job at the fair when his boss is arrested. To make up for the day, naive Franz plans to enter the lottery. He robs a flower seller to get money. Meanwhile, a wealthy antique dealer (Karl-Heinz Böhm) introduces Franz to some friends, including the haughty Eugen (Peter Chatel). A relationship develops, which becomes a lot more interesting for Eugen when Franz actually wins a lot of money in the lottery. He makes him pay for everything and make a hefty investment in Eugen's nearly bankrupt company. Biberkopf lets himself be messed with and loses all his money and self-esteem.
