This is a cult film that caused quite a stir. Atmospheric and daring: the sexual attraction between brother and sister. The powerful and sensual music of legend David Bowie (Putting Out Fire) also helps! And the beauty of the very young Nastassja Kinski certainly matches the beauty of the beautiful animal, the black panther.

Reasonable film in which a brother and sister see each other again after years. A film that could easily have been a lot shorter, because in terms of story it doesn't offer much. It all looks good (not just Nastassja Kinski, but also the whole look of the movie and the make-up effects). Atmospheric and beautiful music by Giorgio Moroder. A small 3.0 stars.

Man likes to think of himself as a rational being that is elevated above the rest of creation, but underneath there is still an animalistic, instinctive side. Irena is torn apart by that inner discord. Her brother Paul has opted for the animal side. She doesn't want to be like him. Opposite this is Alice, who is beautiful, young and healthy. Irena wants her job - working with animals - and her suitor.

Irena seems to be in telepathic contact with the black leopard at the zoo. Other feline predators are also there, like a green-wing macaw and an elephant that enjoys getting wet. The ancient bond between humans and animals is illustrated with cave paintings, sculptures and the animated series Top Cat.

Nastassja "Kinky" had a feline appearance, lithe and green-eyed. Malcolm McDowell learned to eat a piece of meat in the style of a leopard. Only two things were borrowed from the 1942 version: the basic idea of the cat people—a more sensual counterpart to the werewolf—and the pool scene.

The opening scene shows a dreamscape from the time of the distant ancestors, with a baobab and color filters - pink for the day, blue for the night. The full moon suggests supernatural influence. During the Leopard in a motel scene, a reproduction of Da Vinci's Last Supper comes into view, followed by a junk food advertising poster. Shadows evoke a dark atmosphere. The synthesizer sounds of Giorgio Moroder create a dreamy mood; electronic percussion indicates the threat. It is a melancholy, symbolist ballet about the hidden, dark side of man.
