Strong film from the drugs and heavenly fuck, fuck, fuck... world.
I thought the build-up was fine, the atmosphere penetrating and especially the acting of some of those guys (Ben Foster, Justin Timberlake...) extremely successful.
The music is from the environment outlined and fits well in the film.
Not usually my thing, but I thought this one was well worth following.

Surprisingly good. The opening scene presents a family-like drama including accompanying music, which promises little good. I even skipped a minute. Thankfully not at all representative of the rest of the film.
We follow some teenagers who 'play gangster', with appropriate lifestyle. It seems a bit forced and 'too cool', but gradually you are completely drawn into it. The game is fresh, not too difficult and the story is sufficient. What's special is that every character seems to be likeable (b), which is clever in a crime drama. Strong roles from Timberlake and Foster. Plenty of subtle humor too.
The interview edits, while also acting, remind you that it's a true story. That is not announced as such and that is a plus. The post-interview with Olive wasn't necessary, though.
Big windfall, just a good film, looks good, not too complicated, but not superficial either.

Alpha Dog is a very successful reconstruction of a high-profile and sickening murder of a minor. A group of lowlifes around a young drug dealer, Johnny Truelove, kidnap the young brother of a guy who still owes him, in order to force him to pay off.
The group dynamics are well described. That Truelove is still a smart one because he can wind everyone around his finger with money and chic parties. The kidnapped sees it all more as a game with a happy ending. I have to say I found the murder scene heartbreaking and disgusting because that kid trusted his killers to the end . Then that mother who kind of collapsed in that footage material . I got a bad feeling about it. Still positive that justice has finally been done, but what do you do with it if your son is dead.
Finally, very well acted by Foster, Hirsch and especially Timberlake, who portrays a very divided character. Such sad stories. What also struck me is that those zeros came from the higher social classes. ... With the murder by that Reuzegom student group we have a similar fact here in Belgium; same environment, same kind of bored rich man's sons who are gradually turning to the criminal road.
