What does Dr. Etheridge out in the college lab? Sniffing around has fatal consequences for Duffy. A bite from an unhinged monkey seems to have given him super strength. However, it soon becomes apparent that the beast in him has awakened. When he passionately bids the beautiful Debbie farewell, he sinks his teeth into her neck. Her contagion sparks an epidemic that turns the school grounds into a bloody battlefield.

Hm.
A film I actually had very little faith in, but it turned out quite well. I watched the film as part of a film event, so walking around it wasn't an option. It often happens that films like this disappoint me somewhat, but that wasn't the case with Primal Rage. I was quite entertained.
It also helps if you pull in a pretty fun concept, even if it isn't developed very strongly. In principle, it is just an excuse to throw a blob of makeup at the actors and actresses and let them run around a bit. Sometimes that looks messy, but that is about it. The first hour is characterized by mediocrity, with a few decent sequences but also boring filler in between.
The acting isn't very strong and the characters are all incredibly annoying. The fact that they are all categorized as losers, wimps, and machos doesn't make things much better either. Not that it matters much in these kinds of stories, but I found it mostly to be annoying filler. It also means the first half hour doesn't really move forward, but the finale makes up for that.
Mainly due to some clumsy murders and funny fountains of blood. Things get pretty rough at times, although the truly explicit images are kept out. Sometimes there are just some fun ways the characters meet their end, but I would still have preferred the horror to be just a little bit harder. Maybe hire a slightly better effects team, because that aspect in particular was disappointing.
Otherwise quite entertaining, and the second half zips through at a high pace. It helps especially that they are out for entertainment and therefore leave out much of the drama. The first few scenes seem to be heading towards a grim situation, but ultimately the cheese prevails and I was able to enjoy it more. Nothing special, but funny for a change.

Decent is indeed the best word to describe this fairly mediocre horror movie, ape bites boy who consequently turns into a sort of rabid maniac with superpowers and infects others he wounds.
The story could have been developed quite a bit better, but that doesn't happen; the make-up effects are good, though.
