What makes a Star Trek story a good story? The feeling of traveling far, being involved in something that is somewhat scientifically possible or substantiated, adventure, honor and addition to society in the face of economic self-enrichment and above all a punch line with a philosophical touch that you can feel no matter how weak or strong the film is in as a whole, still makes you think. And this movie has that. In that sense, I think it's a great film. It's actually a star trek episode where some money has been poured into it to make it visually and musically sweet. I notice that many people experience it as slow, but I experience it as making clear the immensity of things, building atmosphere and keeping yourself in it. Nice movie to watch, except for the acting mainly by William Shatner, which I find a bit irritating every time, but also very typical. I like these kind of movies.

I find it difficult to know exactly where to start with Star Trek. I did watch a few episodes of the Original Series a few years ago, but then stopped because there are simply better things to watch. I actually didn't find this movie so interesting in terms of plot that I must have missed something here and there. Maybe I'll see number 2 soon and if it doesn't really interest me then I'm afraid it will remain for a long time. The movie is pretty long-winded, in the series they went to other planets. Here they were aboard the USS Enterprise almost continuously. Also very little action and too much talk of which the dialogues sometimes came across quite wooden.

I myself was born in 1984 and since childhood a big Star Trek fan, despite the original actors I find this first Star Trek film really too slow, some dialogues cringe, choices of Kirk and co incomprehensible and the special effects are also heavily dated . Fortunately, part 2 "The Wrath of Kahn" is still a hit.
