A beautiful film about a man who lives for his work and has no social life, until he meets a young woman in a cafe. Two beautiful and captivating characters who clearly like each other, but are still a bit awkward about it (the first physical contact takes a while). Bill Nighy and Kelly Macdonald play their roles perfectly. Movingly beautiful.

I find it hard to imagine that someone, however competent, who is so hesitant and extremely timid in his private life, would be assigned such an important post, addressing representatives of heads of state on global issues.

Anyway, Bill Nighy gets the role and, as always, he plays it brilliantly.

A beautiful film that initially meandered towards the unfolding of a charming, sympathetic, and somewhat humorous romance, but gradually took on a different dimension. Kelly Macdonald is completely convincing as the girl who, as it were, represents the voice of the people, bluntly denouncing the compromises made at summits like these while leaving the painful root of the problems untouched. A dazzling scene at the final banquet with all those self-satisfied dignitaries.

There are still some beautiful scenes, including those between Lawrence and Gina, two people from different worlds who get along well.

Overall, "The Girl in the Café" is a very enjoyable film.

A film about a shy high-ranking civil servant who meets a woman in a café and invites her to a G8 conference in Reykjavik. I think Bill Nighy is a good actor. And his co-star is also quite good. It's a very British film in its presentation, though. And that's a nice touch. Unfortunately, the story is rather improbable and idealistic. A nice film, but poignant when you're familiar with the realities of global politics. And that really bothers me.
