This film appeals to me much less than the book of the same name by James Hilton. I find it quite long-winded due to the lack of pace. It's a shame that Greer Garson doesn't have a bigger role, but the original story simply doesn't allow for that. She comes, she changes Chips' attitude to life and she goes.

Robert Donat earned an Oscar for his role. Given the competition (Clark Gable in Gone with the Wind, Laurence Olivier in Wuthering Heights and James Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington) I don't mind that.

Well, remember me sometimes. I shall always remember you...

1939 is sometimes seen as one of the best years in Hollywood history. How could it be different? The Wizard of Oz captured the hearts of children, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington brought forth a screen legend in James Stewart, and John Ford had found his forever buddy in John Wayne for Stagecoach. Oh yeah, and there was also Gone With The Wind.

Amid all that box office violence, Goodbye, Mr. Chips have been somewhat forgotten over the years and that's a shame. Don't forget that Robert Donat (rightly) beat Laurence Olivier, Clark Gable and James Stewart in this role in the battle for the Oscar for Best Actor. The word 'sentimental' has already been used here, and that is correct. Everything is told in a very sweet way, in a very simplistic way. Sometimes I felt a whiff of Charles Dickens wafting past in the snowy landscape of Brookfield School. And yet, and yet I found myself unable to look away. Do yourself a favor and enjoy Chip's career, because this classic deserves more attention. 4*

that such a good and perhaps somewhat boring film still manages to fascinate is very well done, Donat also does very well in his role, he is an actor who is not really known to me, but he knows how to act well in all ages. convince .

Furthermore, a very good story full of sentiment but unfortunately not much depth in the characters.
