Whoah!! Every now and then I have to set it up again this De Palma.

In the fourth (?) review.

Paranormal thriller full of strange scenes such as a minute long scene in slow motion.

Great soundtrack too.

And Kirk Douglas, John Cassavetes, Amy Irving and Carrie Snodgress together in a seventies movie...amazing!

Seventies Eredivisie!!

Mixed-up film that starts off nicely with the story focusing on the escaping Douglas. As the film progresses, the emphasis is increasingly on the special powers of his son and that girl. Those scenes are usually not very strong. Towards the climax there are a few nicely shot scenes, as we are used to from De Palma, the climax itself is bad and too melo-dramatic .

Good thriller from DePalma. He remains a director with a very recognizable style (eg those slow motions during action scenes) and he had the ambition from the start to follow in the footsteps of "the Hitch". He only succeeded once in my eyes with Blow Out. Here he remains somewhat in the supernatural atmosphere of Carrie with a film that must indeed have been inspiring for Cronenberg's Scanners.

A father tries to rescue his telepathically gifted son from the clutches of an organization that wants to turn him into a weapon of war. He is helped by Gillian, who has the same gifts. The ending is quite unexpected actually, and the tone is quite sinister. The acting is not top notch, but it is valued by De Palma's directing style. The masses have never really liked this film. So I thought it was doable, with some catchy (action) scenes.
