Les Steenfort, Maîtres de l'Orge plot

1854. Charles Steenfort is a novice at the monastery, but a naked lady in the lake converts him to worldly existence. In the monastery he learned to brew beer and with the emerging industrialization he wants to become rich with this. The lady from the lake stays by his side during his efforts, as does a Dutchman he has met, but when it becomes difficult to keep the company financially healthy, he sells their friendship by marrying a wealthy brewer's daughter.
