Laurin plot

Nine-year-old Laurin grows up in a small harbor town around 1900 as the daughter of the sailor Arne, who is often away from home for months. One evening, when her mother loses her balance after a long walk on a bridge whose railing gives way, she drowns in the icy water. Although everyone assumes an accident, Laurin has been plagued by bizarre dreams and visions ever since. Two years later, Van Rees, the vicar's son, returns from military service and takes a job as a village teacher. Laurin is now living with her grandmother Olga, and good friends with her classmate Stefan, who soon gets along well with Van Rees. Peace seems to have returned, but then Laurin's terrifying dreams and visions suddenly return.

The film's strengths lie in the 9-year-old protagonist, Laurin (Dóra Szinetár), and its sinister atmosphere. But unfortunately, that's about it. The story is rather slow, which isn't necessarily a drawback, but it lacks any grip and lacks any suspenseful moments. 6/10
