I expected a little more from this given my positive experiences with (and appreciation for) some French crime/thriller/police/dramas. The acting is good and the action/tension is also sufficient, but the incredible story does not draw this film to a satisfactory level.

It's still a shame to see a competent actor like Reno keep turning up in this kind of hopeless misfires. Apparently he also had to do something about this, since it is hard to imagine how someone of his allure can have such a pitiful taste in film. Because let's be honest, this was once again a piece of cinematic excrement. How the story, which was initially not so sensational, here takes on more ridiculous proportions by the minute is actually astonishing. Ultimately resulting in a draconically bad finale.

Reno himself isn't bad as always, but unfortunately he was surrounded by b-garnish actors and his 'performance' was completely dwarfed thanks to the poor quality of this unintentional farce. Logically, only a shitty figure can arise from this, and yes, we just throw a 0.5* at it.

While watching this Empire of the Wolves, The Crimson Rivers popped into my head again. Not first of all because of the presence of Jean Reno, but also the story and especially the elaboration towards the end contributed to this. But of the level of The Crimson Rovers, I don't think this Empire of the Wolves. The story went too far for me, started excruciatingly slow and didn't exactly feel like an action movie, although that was stated on the cover. It is more of a crime/thriller with a good and above all very dark atmosphere that unfortunately disappoints in terms of suspense.
