La Menace plot

Film that is clearly divided into two parts. Where the first part is a classic example of what one can call a relationship drama, the second part is cinematically very strong but actually not very likely and in terms of intrigue actually very far-fetched.
Yves Montand proves once again that he is one of the most remarkable actors France has ever known.

Rather dusty crime drama, without any actual crime... our main characters just don't handle it very well, but this plot would have been something for an episode of Derrick at most.
The last half hour takes us to Canada, where we encounter blackmail among truckers, which actually provides another 25 minutes of excellent film material.
Seems a bit like they edited two films together, the second of which deserved a better and longer elaboration.

Smoothly filmed thriller, with a pleasant cast and atmospheric soundtrack by Gerry Mulligan. Actually brought exactly what I hoped for and maybe even more than that.
The plot is ultimately quite far-fetched, but of course it also makes the film exciting.
