Although everyone would rather see him go than come, Dale bravely perseveres with an unwavering passion for the game. Gradually he gains the respect and trust of the team, but the battle is only half over. Yet another sports video with the classic tribulations with coach, players and everyone who feels involved and ultimately with the predictable ending.

Luckily no American football this time.

Hackman's charisma supports the film. Hopper is too cartoonish in his cartoonish role and I didn't understand Barbara Hershey's role.

The atmosphere in the sports hall and the music of the film are good.

“My practices aren't designed for your enjoyment.”

Basketball and Indiana, it's inextricably linked. And you see that in Hoosiers, with a small town that gets behind their high school basketball team. With many positive and negative consequences. Because the pressure it puts on the students is immense , and if you, like Jimmy, also have to deal with personal problems, you will be overwhelmed.

Hackman, Hershey and Hopper are great, and the basketball scenes are also well put together. The best part of Hoosiers is probably the images of the vast Indiana landscape, and you immediately understand why basketball is so important to such a small town . There is little else to do.

In high school I was in class with a boy who was quite good at basketball, and that got the whole class involved - so much so that I became somewhat enthusiastic about it too, although it never came close to what I later thought of volleyball (because it's girls) or rowing (because it's fun on the water) or climbing (outdoor games for adults).

Still, it remains difficult to feel anything for this film. As a sports film, there are countless that give a much more nuanced or less nuanced picture of the relationship between coach and team. There are also legions that give a better picture of the sport and the pain of the individual athlete, the price of fame and everything that comes with it.

A decent role by Gene Hackmann, and an almost cameo-like thing by Dennis Hopper, although both lack any depth or character development. And there is very little else positive to report, including the worst rendition of the American national anthem ever. In terms of cinematography, it is more of a celebration of the missed shot - almost nowhere is the story supported by a matching image of the action. Only in the last minutes does this finally succeed occasionally, and even then occasionally with some trickery and some very ugly images.

It's been almost forty years now, so let's just leave it at that.
