I only liked the ending. Still looks pretty good. But nothing spectacular happens.

The Stand is a miniseries that seems made for television, but far surpasses the average TV series. Of course, some effects are dated, and the acting isn't always outstanding either.

But I watched this dystopian story, in which religion plays a major role, with fascination. The American pioneer mentality is also strongly ingrained in it. We see how people can flee to a false prophet in times of need, but also how they can do good through cooperation and hope.

Although the picture quality of the DVD is mediocre (even on my small widescreen), I was able to enjoy the beautiful American cities, deserted in the sun. That desolation is present throughout the entire film. The story is told slowly and plenty of time is taken, causing the pace to sag occasionally. But it fits the desolate atmosphere established here.

Very nice King adaptation.

3.5*
