Blackadder plot
Down through the ages, talented and brave men have contributed to England's honorable and noble history. In this first season, Blackadder is not yet at his very best as a character, being less cunning and manipulative than his later incarnations. Still, there's a great sense of humor in it.
It is an alternate version of English history, in which Richard III wins the Battle of Bosworth and is succeeded by his fictional cousin Richard IV. Shakespeare is parodied, for example with the Weird Sisters from The Scottish Play. The greed of the Church is made fun of. Some jokes hadn't passed censorship in the US. The best part is for Brian Blessed with his thunder voice and his wild beard. Favorite episodes: 1 and 3.

I agree with Baggerman's review, there is a lot of laughter, but all this in an excellent historical context that still fairly accurately reflects what it was like (if I go by books). Baldrick is a fantastic character and Atkinson also proves that he can do more than just make funny faces. Delicious puns too, which are interspersed with visual humor.
