Strange thriller. The actions of a serial killer are linked to the era of disillusionment after the fall of communism. That creates a very strange, gloomy atmosphere. I often had the feeling that I was looking at Russians as Americans see them: scary men who should be avoided.

As a weekend end, I had this Evilenko in yesterday and I had to see this because Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith was one of my favorite books for years. Unfortunately, Espinosa's film adaptation is a terrible mockery, after which Citizen As is clear, the subject is fascinating and I had to see this film. But it was by no means a success.

Despite the excellent McDowell in a role that is all too familiar to him, which he portrays well in terms of behavior and facial expressions, it doesn't really work for a moment with this film that feels stiff and artificial. When Timurovich enters the picture and the investigation begins, and the horrors are depicted, the film takes on a slightly different dynamic that is not necessarily bad. In any case, the image of a Russia in turmoil with old and new thinking diametrically opposed to each other is still quite nice and shows a country in chaos.

But these are very small things where the film then completely goes off the rails and things like the psychiatrist who investigates himself or the completely nonsensical scene where Evilenko and Timurovich take off their clothes. Perhaps this is part of the film, and an attempt to show an image that is as strange as possible, somewhere between psychological thriller and semi-horror. Yet it doesn't make any sense to me and I think this film is even worse than the already very mediocre Child 44 because it deviates too much from the book. Anyway, let's move on to the next one as far as I'm concerned.
