15-year-old Helena lives with her parents in a circus, but dreams of a normal life, far away from the shows and attractions. After a violent argument, her mother suddenly becomes very ill, and Helena is convinced that it is all her fault. The night before her mother's surgery, Helena has a nightmare in which she dreams of a land full of bizarre figures, ruled by two bickering queens.
