dr. David Callaway tries to get his life back on track after his wife commits suicide. His daughter struggles with her mother's death, but finds a comforting friend. After some time, however, this 'friendship' takes very bizarre forms.

Good.
Hide and Seek seems to mix a bit of different genres like the haunted house horror,
scary cellars and scary daughters. And that can have its moments. Fanning plays better than de Niro in my opinion here. Just came across a little more convincing.
The film has a very nasty atmosphere, it should not be about scary moments but just atmosphere. So for people who like as many scare moments as possible, this is not really recommended. The film is a bit boring at times but every now and then there is suddenly a very good scene in it. Culminating in the bathroom scenes.
After the twist, the film seems to go too fast, causing all tension to disappear. The twist itself was also a bit predictable. Well, in the end he did like me. Fine.

Very good thriller, which in my opinion is much too low rated as it turns out.
Too predictable, slow, boring etc, etc. Everyone has their own opinion but as far as I'm concerned nonsense!
Why does a film (especially in this genre) always have to have a high tempo? In addition, predictability is just a guess at the end, by having seen too much of this genre.
The build-up in the film is perfect, with a lot of tension and the necessary scary moments.
Of course you're going to fill in the ending yourself, that's the idea behind this genre, but you can still go in so many directions: does Emily have a dual personality? Is it a ghost in the house? Is it the ghost of the deceased neighbor boy? Did it come from the cave? Is it the schizophrenic neighbor or does the landlord know more about what happened? I didn't see the ending coming. Although after the plot twist it was a bit of a "Here is Johnnie" chase, which was a shame
Again a very strong acting Robert de Niro, a nice little role for Famke Janssen and a very annoying, but well playing Dakota Flanning.
The final shot did give some confusion the whole film shows that Emily has a dual personality and is behind the atrocities, but in the end it is David himself, but in the final shot you see that Emily has drawn herself in the drawing with 2 heads, so anyway... Also in 2 of the 3 alternative endings, this is even more pronounced, in which she is even admitted to a closed clinic and treated by Katherine. It would have been nicer if this had been discussed a bit more, as this ending was even better than the current one!.
In short, a film with a good structure, lots of tension, good acting and a nice plot twist.

Hide and Seek is a movie with some nice twists in it. One sees them coming a bit earlier than the other and will therefore not be judged on the same level for everyone. The cast does a good job and it shows. Great movie in the genre.
