Very nice movie about characters. About how members of a family all react differently to unexpected events and how those reactions lead to tensions.

Mike Bender (Shep in the film) delivers a top performance here, not so much as a director but especially as a screenwriter. He deliberately keeps the tempo slow, so that there is room to bring out the different personalities.

Here people are presented who struggle with their feelings and with the feelings of others. Very well done.

Joan Allen (as almost always) puts away a heck of a role, with which she has rightly won numerous awards. Kevin Costner provides the comic relief and he does it well. Finally, the still very young Evan Rachel Wood shows that she is on her way to becoming a great actress.

If you like to see thrilling chases or violence, you should skip this movie. But if you want to see ordinary people with their (im) quirks in their daily activities, you should not miss "The Upside of Anger".

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this movie. In the beginning I didn't like it much, it seemed like another women's/TV movie, but luckily it changed. There were also some "funny" (don't expect too many now) moments and even a surprising twist towards the end.

It's not a movie you want to see again and again, but it was worth watching nonetheless.

“I'm from a broken home.”

What a fantastic actress that Joan Allen is. Also in The Upside of Anger she shows her best side again as a drunk and depressed woman who has apparently been abandoned by her husband. Kevin Costner also has a strong role and ensures that it doesn't get too heavy.

The film has a light-hearted tone, especially in the first part, which changes quickly. The four daughters are played by famous actresses and everyone has their own storyline. Unfortunately, the result is that none of the subplots really impress. Only a young Evan Rachel Wood really impresses and already shows her talent here. When the movie focuses on Allen and Costner it gets better. And the film has a nice twist at the end, which gives it a fitting ending.
