Hao Si Bu Ru Lai Huo Zhe plot
In the Chinese farming village of Wenlou, nearly sixty percent of the population is infected with the HIV virus. Such is the high price now being paid for the blood trade, with which the poverty-stricken inhabitants of rural China in the 1990s tried to earn a meager bit of money. Ma Shengyi's family is filmed for almost a year, starting in the summer of 2001, the period when the AIDS disease manifested itself in mother Leimei. Ma Shengyi takes care of his wife and three children - the youngest daughter and baby son of whom are also infected with HIV - while desperately trying to make ends meet.
