An American Rhapsody plot
"One family struggles for survival, for justice, for freedom."
In 1950, a Hungarian family is forced to flee from their communist Hungary to America. Peter and Margit can only take their oldest daughter and are forced to leave behind their youngest daughter Suzanne, who is being raised by a friendly foster family. When Peter and Margit arrange for their daughter to come to Los Angeles six years later through the American Red Cross, their daughter is forced to accept drastic changes in her living environment. However, this leads to a disturbed childhood. At the age of 15, Suzanne decides to go back to Hungary to find her roots and true identity.
