Ten years ago, Archbishop Ralph de Bricassart had a passionate relationship with Maggie Clairy O'Neil, but he left her for a life devoted to God and the Catholic Church. Maggie's husband, Luke, has also left her. However, after ten years Luke suddenly shows up at her doorstep, but Maggie now has two children and keeps quiet from Luke that he is not the father.
