LA Confidential is an excellent police thriller with some typical noir elements. What I missed a bit, especially because of the somewhat boring police station, is that the film has to lose some atmosphere.
Nevertheless, there are other typical noir elements present, such as the femme fatale played by the pleasing beauty of Kim Basinger. She's doing well, although I've seen better. Another typical noir element are of course the Venetian blinded windows at the end.

I have nothing bad to say about the acting. The protagonists are certainly not the least with a Guy Pearce that I recently saw at work in Koolhoven's Brimstone. Partly because of that film, he had to get rid of his, by me at least, hated character that he played there. Fortunately that happened quite quickly. Kevin Spacey does an excellent job of course and also brings some humor. He hasn't changed a hair in 20 years, although it's his hair that has changed. It has become a bit grayer, but otherwise unbelievable how little someone can change in 20 years. Then we have Russell Crowe playing the no-bullshit cop and beating everyone up when it suits him.

Contrary to Fisico, I think the ending is very strong, although I can somewhat understand that Bud White should have been dead. However, I think he was shot through the cheek so I think you can survive that, although it is not a nice view in retrospect. Definitely recommended. Now fix the score, I'm going to give 4.5* because I think 4* is already too low. The film is well put together and, in my opinion, is almost perfect.

Beautiful film in which three completely different cops try to solve a shooting. Los Angeles of the 1950s is beautifully and attractively portrayed and above all beautifully decorated. A good plot, compelling characters and definitely a strong cast (simply a film where all the ingredients come together perfectly).

A strong film that definitely deserves another viewing in a while.

LA Confidential is a modern film noir with a very good plot, captivating storylines and a hugely good cast. Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe were still great unknowns, but they shine in this film.

Pearce in particular shines, he's Agent Ed Exley, a person you hate after a few seconds. Yet Kevin Spacey is second to none, again in this film. What an incredibly good actor.

Yet it is not only the cast that is the cause of the success of this film. Director Curtis Hanson knows how to convincingly present the apparently independent storylines and later also let them flow smoothly into each other. It's a shame that 'Titanic' went on to win almost all the awards that year and that this film did a lot of damage as a result.

Four stars for now, but it can't be other than that this will go up in the air after a review. A real 'must see' for every film lover..
