The Choice plot

"Let your heart decide."

Travis Parker has everything a man could wish for: a good job, loyal friends and a dream home in a small town in North Carolina. He is convinced that a serious relationship with a woman would only get in the way of the good life. Until Gabby Holland moves into the house next to his. Despite Travis's attempts to be friendly, she seems to be constantly annoyed by him.

Typical Nicolas Sparks.

Most of the time I can still watch his movies and sometimes it's good like The Notebook. This is often due to the actors and that is also the case here. The Parker family (Travis, his father and sister) and Gabby are portrayed with charisma. The Choice is a very gooey story and there are the usual clichés in it, but that didn't bother me that much. What did bother me is how the story is rushed after the wedding. They have children, children grow up (other characters including dogs all keep looking the same), the accident and the miracle. No idea how it's written in the book, but they should have taken a little more time for this.

2.5*

I'm not averse to romantic and/or sentimental kitsch and I can usually tolerate the film adaptations of Nicholas Sparks' books, but this is very bad. The film itself starts out nice to derail somewhere halfway in such a way that the enamel jumps off your teeth. The fact that Tom Wilkinson got caught up in this film doesn't do his reputation any good.

Everything mentioned above is absolutely true: sugary sweet, over the top, sentimental, predictable, Hollywood ending, unbelievable, little character. But wow, was it beautiful to look at! The background looked like a beautiful nature film. And such a man...... that is what every woman dreams of! One that will walk through fire for you, kiss the ground beneath your feet, fight for you, travel after you, shed rivers of tears around you, truly do anything for you!! I felt his pain at the dilemma he faced, an impossible choice. Let's all hope that the wonders of the world are not over yet, because after all, hope gives life!
