Those Olsen twins have made a lot of movie mess. Around the late 1990s and early 2000s, there was a tidal wave of interchangeable, scriptless productions in which the pair had to be in every shot and the plot didn't matter. That was something different with It Takes Two from 1995, a Prince and the Pauper/Parent Trap clone, which, although nowhere exceptional, is well put together on many fronts. Fortunately, as in many of their subsequent films, the show isn't just for the twins. The story mainly revolves around Guttenberg and Alley, two stars of the 90s, who have quite a charming chemistry. Meanwhile, Philip Bosco plays a sympathetic role as a butler and Jane Sibbett does her best as the ultimate bitch to get everyone's blood under the nails. Furthermore, It Takes Two is a predictable, innocent family movie. Nothing more, but also nothing less.

3 stars.

Bad.

It Takes Two is an insufferable monstrosity in a genre that I don't particularly like. The Olsen twins are annoying from start to finish and that end is only in sight after an hour and a half. Not that long in itself, that playing time, but it really does feel longer.

With Kirstie Alley and the Police Academy guy, there are somewhat familiar faces around, but they are not immediately high flyers either.

Seen it before, but it's still a fun (family) movie. Back then, the Olsen twins were still fun to watch.
