Der Schinderhannes plot

The farmers in Hunsrück did not have an easy life at the end of the 18th and early 19th century. They have to give money to both the German nobility and the French occupiers, which drastically worsens their situation. But one of the oppressed is actively fighting the ruling majority; Johann Bückler (Curt Jürgens), also popularly known as "Schinderhannes", wants to put an end to this situation. With some "helpers" he steals from the rich, and then divides that loot among the poor.
