The basic data sought does not work, it is too absurd. The way it is told could have worked if it had been worked out completely over the top, but the film falls far short of that. Brosnan may be doing his best, but he also falls short, and Kinnear is given too little space to fill in his part of the story. The jokes don't work well enough to make it a decent comedy, at least I couldn't catch myself doing anything with even a faint smile.

Mediocre.
Pierce Brosnan in his post-Bond period is just as predictable as the one during his Bond period. As a doubting but smooth hit man, he doesn't throw off that Bond yoke. The combo with Jan-with-the-pet Greg Kinnear is unusual and I don't really know what to think about it.
That actually applies to the entire movie. I never think it's bad. Some scenes are quite entertaining and all in all the film is smoothly directed enough that it never starts to drag. Yet I lack humor or sharpness to really like this. Ultimately, the question remains what this is actually about.
