A strong start for Don Bluth, who already gained a lot of experience in the seventies with (the better films of) Disney. I've always understood that he thought Disney was too soft, but no doubt it will also be a lot easier to be creative in your own business. The Secret Of NIMH is therefore a lot darker than what you are used to in the genre. So much so that I wondered a few times whether this is suitable for children from 6 years old. There are some pretty bad moments, though. Except for that, I find it remarkable that this one has always been less popular compared to Bluth's later films. I only like The Land Before Time better.

The Secret Of NIMH starts out nice and mysterious. The beautiful, slightly psychedelic, color spectacle seems peaceful, until Dragon (which is only surpassed by Roughtooth) disrupts the fairy tale. A good harbinger of things to come. Sweet and funny scenes alternate with dark, sometimes quite gruesome scenes (for example, when it becomes clear that animal experiments have preceded the story. Many children will undoubtedly find the rats scary, although it is a scary experience for adults. good reason to watch. Don Bluth put a lot of time and effort into making it a good, exciting story. The variety of characters are fantastic. I think the great owl is fantastic.

It's a movie I'm going to see more often anyway. Because of the late hour, I didn't get everything, which is quite unusual for a 'children's film', although I did enjoy the magical story, the beautiful animations and the beautiful music. I'll park this one at four stars, but that could go up later.

Saw it yesterday for the first time in years. This time in English, for the first time. A little getting used to the other voices at first, but the original cast is also excellent.

It remains a beautiful traditional animation film that is beautifully drawn and animated. I also continue to love the typical 80s effects. A beautiful and original story, with quite mature features and also some quite dark scenes. All this accompanied by the phenomenal soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith.

NIMH remains one of my most favorite animated films. Without a doubt Don Bluth's best film, although some of his later films such as An American Tail were also particularly strong. Looking back, I thought it was a fairly short film, but that's what I think about all the children's films I see.

A film that I will often see again and of which I really have to write an extensive review.

A fine animation, typical 80s style, but of above average quality, both in terms of animation images, plot and dialogues. The beginning reminds a bit of A Christmas Carol, little Tim is sick and needs medicine, but that's where the comparison goes. Mother mouse goes looking for those medicines and that results in a very fun and exciting adventure, where she gets the help of a clumsy crow. Nice 80s animation, although I hadn't seen this one before, it does give me some childhood sentiment. Over 3.5*
