"Sometimes when you reach for a dream you have to leave something behind."
Laurie Robinson wants to be a singer and actress, but her father, a famous comedian, would rather see her follow in his footsteps. However, her attempts to break through as a comedian fail one by one, and she herself feels that she is not suitable for it. One day she meets Chris Nolan at a restaurant, and that same night they have a one-night stand. Laurie, meanwhile, in a relationship with someone else, says the next morning that it meant nothing to her, but a few days later she discovers that Chris is a film director.
