The best Amityville indeed. This sixth part is a quite atmospheric and tightly directed horror film. The excuse to create a new Amityville is far-fetched and out of the blue, but that doesn't matter, because in itself this is just horror as I like to see it. The house is atmospheric, the gore is more present than in many Amityville films and the 90's look is very cool. Also clearly a film by the director of Hellraiser 2, the soundtrack and atmosphere are very reminiscent of the early Hellraiser period. A boost after the very bad fifth part.

3.5*

Very entertaining horror film and in my opinion the best Amityville related film made up to that point.

The characters are often stereotypical, but that makes for some cool characters, such as the metalhead Rusty (played by Damon Martin). I don't have much to complain about the acting, because it was quite good.

The special fx (gore) is also of surprisingly good quality and provides some cool scenes.

Furthermore, this is just a nice old-fashioned horror (especially the beginning with the thunderstorm) that is very enjoyable to watch.

Director Tony Randel has delivered some pretty fun horror films, but his contribution to the Amityville series barely rises above average. It is clear that there is someone with more vision behind the helm, but unfortunately the scenario works against him considerably. The first hour has few moments worth mentioning, far too few to keep the whole thing continuously entertaining. A dog attack and the button room are the few highlights, but that is of course far too limited. However, the patient viewer will be rewarded with the finale, which has quite a few practical effects and fun ideas. An antique clock is the evil object this time instead of a lamp, but Randel fortunately provides it all with just a little more ominous whimsy. The acting is not the best and the first hour is quite tough, but the film (ultimately) delivers what the enthusiast is watching for and that is entertainment.
