Glenn Holland (Dreyfuss) is a musician and composer. He is going to teach music at a school, in order to be able to work on his dream in his spare time, to compose a classical masterpiece. As he passes on his love for music to his students with great joy, the years pass by. However, the close relationship with his students is in stark contrast to Glenn's relationship with his deaf son.
