Gervaise plot
Paris in the second half of the 19th century. The washerwoman Gervaise has been left on her own since her lover Lantier abandoned her and their two sons. However, she begins to believe in love again when she meets the hard-working roofer Coupeau. Gervaise and Coupeau get married and have a daughter, Nana. Their happiness is short-lived, however, because Coupeau can no longer work due to a crash. As a result of his forced inactivity, he starts drinking. Gervaise does not lose heart and continues to chase her dream: her own laundry. However, she cannot stop her husband's degeneration. To make matters worse, Lantier reappears in her life.
