Citizen Kane is a name like a clock in the film world, just like Casablanca, which came out about the same time, is for example. I can appreciate Citizen Kane, but like many, I'm not going to place it in my personal top 10 right away.
Citizen Kane begins in a mysterious way with the mysterious last words of Charles Kane on his star bed that no one can place. What follows is a kind of detective film in which a picture of the late Charles Kane is sketched on the basis of witness conversations. His flamboyant and charismatic self is already stylishly revealed in the beginning of the film via news reports. A beautiful picture is created of the life of a very influential media mogul.
Where Citizen Kane especially excels are the technical aspects. Editing and directing are almost sublime. The camera handling, such as the frog's perspective, is also reviewed. The story is exceptional, but looks pretty way off. Glad to have seen him.

I forgot that the BBC always biographical review does before the movie, so I'm just sitting there watching an Orson Welles complain that he was never offered any really big roles - "I would have sold my soul to the Devil to play the Godfather". It is unimaginable that the then 24/25-year-old Orson Welles had the courage and ambition to set up such a grand project. genius? Yes. What I've always found remarkable about the film is that as young as Welles was as an actor playing Kane, he had the corresponding motor skills of a middle-aged to older man. That's where all actors, no matter how skilled, always go wrong when they have to play an older man (except maybe De Niro). Joseph Cotten, for example, does not succeed at all. Film is full of metaphors. Let viewers find out for themselves. Charles Foster Kane, the middle name says a lot.

Wow that shot of all that crap at the end just looks like a city like New York from above with skyscrapers and cell towers and completely built-up crap. Truly brilliant shot. The ending is a beautiful message. Kane's wife can't sing but still gets great reviews much like these days where crappy Netflix movies are praised and given 5/5 stars and the whole population falls for it. Media has become too powerful. While mediocrity gets all the credit, geniuses like Welles have had no success at all.
