"Sometimes you just want to fit in... or not."
September 2002. The Iacovoni family moves from the countryside to Rome. Father Giancarlo is a vengeful, ambitious accounting teacher. He is feared by his in-laws because of his supposed social and cultural superiority, but he is adored by his wife Agata. She is a simple country woman, who is childishly naive and has been talked into all kinds of complexes by her husband. Giancarlo has pinned all his hopes on his daughter Caterina, a very shy thirteen-year-old girl with a passion for polyphonic singing, who is forced by her father to befriend classmates from important families. Caterina's year at school turns into a turbulent voyage of discovery into the fascinating and terrifying world of the Roman upper class. At the same time, this adventure is also a disillusionment that destroys the dreams of father Giancarlo (Sergio Castellito) to enter the wealthy class.

Special, strong, moving, funny and beautiful.
This film was watched without any effort until late in the evening, there was a nice atmosphere. The images and the light, just very cheerful actually. Fortunately a lot of depth in many characters, I always find that very nice to see that not everyone is portrayed as a stereotype.
Nice story, sufficient acting. Enjoyed it very much, sympathized, 4 stars!

Nice comedy about the political division of Italy. On the left and right there are closed bastions, which fight each other tooth and nail, but keep the door closed to outsiders.
Fine performances by Castelitto, Buy and newcomer Alice Teghil in the title role. Not the best work of director Paolo Virzì, but entertaining nonetheless.

This movie is really, really fun.
It started well with Caterina's father.
How he said goodbye to his class as a teacher was impressive.
For him it was a matter of waiting for his transfer to Rome that was finally going to happen.
Caterina's father is the man we agree with, but also understand that he comes across as a jerk.
His daughter Caterina came across more as prey for her new environment.
The experiences in and outside school with her classmates were very interesting.
This film is more evocative than any American film I've seen so far.
I would be happy to hear if there are any better films in this area.
Paolo Virzi has certainly managed to catch my attention.
The 6.9 this film has received on IMDB is therefore far too little.
Everyone should see this movie at least once.
