It had been a while since I had seen a “La Loren” film. As can be seen in many of her American films, it once again becomes clear that Hollywood directors did not really know what to do with the natural sex appeal that makes her so overwhelmingly pop off the screen in the Italian films. In this film, that facet of this talented comedienne is limited to one sexy dance (“Carina”).

Add to that the fact that a very worn-out Clark Gable (in his penultimate film) is her co-star and it soon becomes clear that real romance is the bottom line. Not to mention the fact that almost all American prejudices about the "unorderly" life in Italy are incorporated into the story.

Still a pass as a tribute to Sophia Loren and because of the beautiful images of Capri.

Mediocre film about an American man who travels to Italy to arrange the affairs of his deceased brother, who was married there. A thin story that does not really captivate and where the romance is also poorly developed. It doesn't help that there isn't really any chemistry between Clark Gable and Sophia Loren. Some funny dialogues and the little boy is also nice. Beautifully shot on the island of Capri.

I also came across this one last week in a crate full of oldies and foreign stuff in the Emmeloord thrift store, so I simply decided to take what looked like something. This one was also one of them, a choice mainly inspired by the cast in the form of Gable and Loren. When I got home I had already concluded that the film was not a great film, but I gave it a try nonetheless.

Nevertheless, It Started in Naples has quite a nice charm at the start, mainly inspired by the era, the cars, the streets with the typical Italian chatter, but especially of course the beautiful locations in the form of Italy, duh, Naples and Capri. It is, in a word, beautiful! Clear and at the same time simple is the story about Hamilton, who comes to arrange his deceased brother's affairs, but encounters a lot more and even sees his own life change. And then you have a lot...

...but not because the concerns within the triangle relationship Hamilton, Lucia and Nando do not rise above cliché and in some cases the typical Italian hysteria, the bustle and the aforementioned chatter, is quite disappointing. Despite the beautiful curves of La Loren. Just like Nando who has quite funny moments but can just as easily be annoying. Meanwhile, Capri remains the real reason to watch, and also the main character of the film, because the ending cannot save the film as it is quite predictable.

As already reported by other users, and now also by me, there is little special about this film, other than the colorful and touristy Capri, and it can safely be skipped.
