Great and daring adaptation of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. An unusual mix of Roman antiquity vehicles from WWII and other modern utensils. Shakespeare's lyrics have remained intact as in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. Visually very strong and the actors are all very good.

Rewatched the movie again as I am going to a theater performance next week by theater group La Fura Dels Baus. M curious.

Saw it in the bios. That was a special experience.

I'm fine with this kind of anachronistic Shakespearean affair. Beautiful texts, beautiful sets - although they do not correspond to the time of the Bard or Titus Andronicus, it does add strength to the story. Alan Cumming in his rather Nazi-looking long coat, for example.

The story is a bit on the heavy-handed - and occasionally ludicrous - side. Perhaps that's why this is one of Shakespeare's lesser known works. One revenge follows the other at an enormous pace - especially in the beginning pay close attention, otherwise you will only see a senseless slaughter in the whole story. And of course it is that in itself.

What often happens in these kind of Shakespeare productions is that the entire cast and crew rise to a kind of higher level, seem to rise above themselves. Also here, above all, perfect acting performances and beautiful images thereof. Everyone expects that from Anthony Hopkins, of course, but the rest is hardly inferior to him in this film. Something to do with the honor of being allowed to play such a role, I think.

All in all, maybe not exactly a nice movie, but a very interesting one. Film history.

Still a remarkable film. A mix of old and new and then also the original lyrics. A bit like Romeo + Juliet. I must say that I found R + J more interesting in terms of story, because it appealed to me more.

The cast did a great job, although it was mainly Anthony Hopkins who stood out.

The film could have been a little shorter for me, but I thought it was worth watching.
