King Ralph plot

"When Ralph becomes royalty, laughter reigns!"

The English court has gathered in the park of Buckingham Palace so that an official photo can be taken. A careless lighting man leaves a cable swinging on the damp ground and at the big moment the entire royal family is electrocuted and there is no heir available except for a very distant descendant in the United States. In Las Vegas, bar pianist Ralph happily accepts the "role" he must play. Ralph begins his duties as king with great good will, but soon realizes that he doesn't mind court etiquette.

Nice movie. Also a classic comedy I saw in the cinema years ago. How funny can that John Goodman play. Ordinary; this is a party for the kids anyway, but adults will also be able to enjoy it, I give it a 3.5! Great score for this kind of comedy.

So saw it again today.

The story is good, and the execution is good too. John Goodman does a nice job, but I didn't like him the whole movie. The same goes for the jokes. Sometimes they are nice, but they are also often very bland. Peter O'Toole does a nice job too, but John Hurt didn't add much. Nice to see you again, but sometimes it's just not that nice. Still, I'll add half a point, because this time I was able to laugh more than last time.

I've always hated this movie and I don't really get what's funny about it, because the story is too retarded for words and the same goes for the execution.

The beginning was fun with the execution (accidentally) of the entire English court during a photo session. But after that it just doesn't make sense and it wasn't fun anymore. I also didn't like the role of John Goodman (which I normally like) in the role of king, and certainly not the lame antics he pulled. The only two people who still save this film are veterans Peter O'Toole and John Hurt.

Fortunately, the film does not last very long, but it is just a torment/torture to sit this film all the way through.
