When I saw the film in the TV guide, I got a little curious. Keeping in mind something like "it will soon become clear why this film has such a low average" I had already prepared a DVD to watch, but that turned out not to be necessary. It was not a punishment to see this film. The story is quite absurd and there are enough special situations. The pace kept my mind from wandering, and I didn't get annoyed by the movie either. At times I even thought it was quite funny. Quite a few familiar faces passed by and there were also a few pretty nice ladies walking around.
Of course I also saw that it was often badly acted, but it didn't really irritate me. I also heard that the sound was out of sync, that it didn't sound realistic, that it was pasted carelessly over the images, but I got used to that pretty quickly. The special effects were also not very convincing, but I did not experience that as disturbing.
Of course it's a matter of taste, but I'm afraid the extremely low figure that people see here is more likely to encourage giving half a star; just like the highest rated films are more likely to be given five stars. I absolutely cannot agree that this is one of the worst films ever according to the voter average. Although there is little "good" about the film, 'De Zeemeerman' entertained me quite a bit and that's what it's all about for me in the first place.

Saw the movie on TV but forgot to vote. Well the Mermaid Man is the weirdest collection of scenes I've ever seen, and I quite liked it too 
Weird though, that 50's Rock 'n Roll atmosphere. The story is too ridiculous for words, but with a few friends there was a lot of laughter at the bizarre events. The film isn't good of course, and the ending is a bit of a blow (ha!) but if I have to judge it purely on the experience (and that's what MovieMeter is for?) I give it a tight enough...

Fished out of a tank at a video store in a god-forgotten village in Belgium. I could still remember this being a movie that, according to MM, is one of the worst movies of all time. So taken for 0.50€.
The film is, at times, quite entertaining because of the content: "Look how bad it is, it's just funny." Only sometimes the films even missed out on that aspect. As a result, it definitely falls into the category of “worst movies” for me.
