Historically a very important thriller, given the boost it would give the later Giallo genre. In addition to being a master of the occult, Bava is also a link in the history of Italian cinema. In essence, The Girl Who Knew Too Much is unfortunately quite mediocre. The film opens strongly with a death and murder scene that are brilliantly portrayed, but the rest of the film relies too much on twists and riddles, while the tension is omitted. The obligatory humorous approaches do not help here either. Important, but not a strong thriller.

Tight 3*

Nice movie. A murder mystery with a comic undertone. The camera work is, as you would expect from Bava, beautiful. I think the image as the first giallo film is a bit exaggerated: the film lacks too many important ingredients for it. Most importantly, the atmosphere is too light-hearted; Bava doesn't turn his hand for some funny situations. The film has some exciting scenes, but sporadic and only half successful looking at the film as a whole. You look at this more like visual candy.

Nice light fare starring a beautiful Leticia Roman. How she ended up in a Russ Meyer movie afterwards, no idea.

Urgallo. The term 'gialli' is also mentioned by the voice over at the beginning of the film. When referring to Leticia Roman's favorite detective novels (with yellow covers). The title of the film is clearly a reference to Hitchcock, but that was an idea of the production and not so much of Mario Bava. Afterwards he was rather condescending about this film, but I personally don't think it's that bad at all. It contains some good thrills and laughs, beautiful settings ... And also some elements that would become standard in later slashers: the typical slamming door, threatening phone calls ... I also quite liked the ending. Film that should be taken with a grain of salt but certainly entertained me. Beautiful film style in B&W. Afterwards, Bava would only do it in color. It is a giallo with a lighter tone than what would follow afterwards. But I don't think he's inferior for that.
