L'Ultimo Squalo plot

"You're what's for dinner."

When a beach is being built in Port Harbor (a coastal town), a great white shark begins to attack humans. Despite all the injured, the mayor does nothing about it. He is afraid that the tourists will get wind of it and that they will no longer visit his beach. Peter Benton, a man who wrote a book about sharks, and Ron Hamer, an old water rat, decide to put an end to the ongoing attacks.

Weak rip-off of Jaws. Okay, this rip-off is a bit better than the terribly dramatic appearance of Jaws: The Revenge, but this cannot be called good either. The shark didn't look good either. Some scenes such as that a man was sitting on a boat with a megaphone shouting that they had to get out of the water. Then the shark hit the boat and the boat flew into the air
The ending was also a bit ridiculous. 1.0.

Spielberg's success.

L'Ultimo Squalo is a pretty ridiculous rip-off of the masterful Jaws. Unlike that film, this one lacks just about everything you need to be captivating. It is a sum of bad acting, bad film music, a very cheap-looking shark and a weak, tension-free execution of the well-known story. Then Orca from '77 is a better choice in terms of riding on Spielberg's success.

This shark changes color more often than a magic ball and is even occasionally replaced by an obvious dolphin. Just when you think it can't get much crazier, the accent of the Robert Shaw clone also appears to be subject to change. With the exception of the camera work, there is very little to enjoy in this unnecessary film. So just skip it and start Jaws again.

Mediocre.

Disappointingly mediocre shameless Jaws rip-off.

L'Ultimo Squalo starts off very wrong. One of the cheesiest 80's songs I've ever heard is played while we see a typical 80's guy with slightly too small swimming trunks doing some tricks on a surfboard. That's all nice, but after 5 minutes I was already craving the shark...

The cast is nothing special. They are mostly colorless types, except for Vic Morrow. Morrow plays the role of the rugged shark hunter Ron Hamer, a role almost identical to that of Quint in Jaws, and does a very nice job. Robert Shaw and Vic Morrow are even very similar in appearance. The latter died a terribly gruesome death a year after the release of this film. During filming, a helicopter flew too close to an explosion on set. The helicopter crashed and landed on Vic Morrow and 2 young girls. Morrow and one of the girls were decapitated by the blades, the other girl was hit by the helicopter and also died.

Back to the movie---> it's actually surprisingly boring. There is some pointless nonsense, some confusing underwater shots and some, often, ridiculous stock footage where a swimming dolphin has to pass for the gigantic white shark in this film. The only enjoyable moments are the ones where the fake shark is in full view. It may not look very convincing, but it is entertaining. Furthermore, there are 1 or 2 scenes that are actually worth watching. For example, the structure of the helicopter scene is particularly strong and the entire scene with the drifting platform is also of a more than excellent level. The soundtrack itself is also not much to criticize, although the opening tune is, as I said, very cheesy.
