Hector plot
Achiel, the owner of the local bakery, is far from happy. His son frequently fails at cycling and his wife does her utmost to flee the village as quickly as possible. In desperation Achiel enlists Hector's help to help his son Jos with the training for the cycling round of Zwalmzele. In the meantime, his wife has embarked on a career as an actress and plays one love scene after another with Achiel's greatest arch-rival.

Never been a big fan of Urbanus, but I think this is his best film anyway. In my view, Urbanus has a somewhat outdated humor repertoire that relies too much on bland underpants humor, although he occasionally touched on a social problem (fur, for example). Of course you have to see everything in his zeitgeist, but it never really caught on with me: neither his films nor his performances nor his comics. I do have a lot of respect for him for what he has achieved as an artist and I am still very surprised how popular he was and still is.
Hector reminds me a bit of the later Allez Eddy, also a Flemish film. Not comparable in terms of content, but the setting with cycling touches the soul of cycling-loving Flanders. Despite the clearly comical approach of the film, the drama content is also present with Hector's difficult childhood in orphanages. Coninx found the right balance here in the film. And there is more good in the film: Urbanus himself of course, but also the other colleagues and even the plot is more than decent. Definitely worth seeing again!

Nice movie. The humor is really on point and there are regular good laughs. I found the story original with both humor and drama. I think I've seen the film before, but that's okay because it's a film to watch once every few years. If I can mention one downside, it's Achiel's death. Okay, the doctor came by to prescribe him some pills, but that he dies that way is too coincidental. Hector's ingenuity is also great to see. Crazy or genius? Furthermore, a very pleasant Flemish film for people who don't want to think for a while and want to laugh.

Good film about a grown man who still lives in an orphanage until his aunt comes to pick him up. The story itself is not too much, but the film contains enough fun and funny scenes. Urbanus is perfectly at home here as the somewhat infantile Hector (and besides, his Flemish accent is always nice).
I've seen this movie quite often.
