Teacher Samuel Graves receives an anonymous note with only the word "GUMBALL" on it. He immediately understands what it is all about and immediately takes the first plane bound for New York, where he makes an appearance in a heavily guarded restaurant. He's not the first. House mothers, teenagers, the elderly, freeloaders and businessmen are already present. At first glance, they have nothing in common, except that they are all addicted to speed, the sound of cranked up engines and the smell of gasoline. None of them can wait for the 'Gumball Rally' to start, an illegal race destined for Long Beach, California.

37 years ago this was the absolute number 1 best film of all time as far as I'm concerned, only rivaled by Slap Shot, The Longest Yard and [i]The Sheriff Sees They Fly[ /i].
This used to be seen a lot on the VHS tape that was never allowed to be rewinded. Watch it again after more than 30 years and there is not a scene that I do not remember. There are better car movies, there are movies with better jokes and stunts, there are movies with more pace, but I still have a soft spot for this movie. Youth sentiment this!

A bunch of weirdos who hold an illegal race and a police officer who regularly gets lost. 70's humor. Pleasant and especially the departure of the race early in the morning is unprecedentedly good with the sound of the then V6, V8 and V12 engines.
